A toy that is a year too advanced gets abandoned, and one that is a year behind gets ignored. Tell us the age and what you want to build — grip, words, logic or imagination — and we will show you four or five that actually fit, with a line on why.
Drag to your child's age and pick what you want the toy to work on. Every result carries a plain sentence about why it suits that age, and a safety chip if there are small parts.
Pick a box, drop toys in, and the box fills up in front of you. When it is nearly full we will say so rather than letting you order something that will not close.
Channapatna toys have been turned on a lathe and coloured with vegetable lacquer for two hundred years. That lacquer is why a toddler can chew one and nothing happens.
The wood is hale mara (ivory wood), soft enough to turn cleanly and dense enough not to splinter. Colour comes from lac resin mixed with vegetable dye, applied to the spinning piece by friction alone. There is no paint, no varnish and no adhesive anywhere near the toy.
| Material | What it is | Why it is safe |
|---|---|---|
| Hale wood | Wrightia tinctoria, farm-grown | No resin bleed, no splintering when chewed |
| Lac | Resin from the lac insect | Food-grade, used on medicine capsules too |
| Colour | Vegetable and mineral dyes | Zero lead, cadmium or phthalates |
| Joins | Friction-fit and wooden pegs | No glue, so nothing to come loose or off-gas |
380 schools use our kits. Each one arrives with a printed activity plan written by a Montessori-trained teacher, because a box of toys without a plan becomes a box in a cupboard.
Every kit: printed activity plan, storage crate, replacement pieces for a year, and a teacher session on video call. GST invoice, 30-day terms for schools.
Get a school quotePlastic return gifts are in the bin by Tuesday. These are not. Wrapped, labelled with each child's name if you send us the list, and delivered to the venue on the morning of the party.
Yes, and they will. Lac is a food-grade resin and the dyes are vegetable and mineral, with lab reports for lead, cadmium and phthalates on file. What you should watch is size, not chemistry — anything marked "3+" on our cards has parts that fit through a choke tube.
Some fading with heavy chewing and sunlight is normal for lac; it is a resin, not paint. Send the toy back within two years and we re-lacquer it free. Do not put these in water or a dishwasher — wipe with a dry cloth.
Buy for where the child is now, not where you hope they will be in six months. A toy that is too advanced gets abandoned and often does not get picked up again later. The finder above deliberately errs younger.
For 100 units and above, yes: shapes, colours and engraved names for corporate gifting or a school's branding. Sampling takes 12 days and costs ₹3,500, adjusted against the order.
14 days, unopened or opened, no reason required. Send it back and we refund to source. Gift boxes with a handwritten note are the one exception, and even those we will exchange.
The 46 families are paid per piece at rates set with the Channapatna cooperative and revised each April, plus a 5% share of our annual profit. We publish the per-piece rates in our annual note; ask and we will send it.
Send a message with the child's age and one thing they are into right now. Someone here will send back three options and the reason for each, usually within the hour.
